20" dia 1/2" wall 4' long is that a good start for an ofset smoker? Is the wall thickness to much? Is the diameter too small?

I have made a couple out of 20" x 3/8" The diameter was fine. It will take a little more heat to get 1/2" up to temp  but it will be fine..

Happy smoken.

Do you think it will hold heat better?

I will hold heat, but take longer to get there, we built one out of 1/2" because we had a piece of that size laying around. Cooks great just takes a while to get it up to temp and it's heavy. We try to stick with 1/4" , but sometimes you just have to go with what you got.

Free materials is hard to pass up! That would be a heavy duty smoker for sure. grilling_smilie.gif

If I had it and was free probably would already be laying out my cuts.
