Well, based on the info provided,,,,, I guess your smoking too much and I can't think of anything wrong with that!

The skin is thin on those and they don't hold heat so you need more fuel
 
Thats what i thought. Plus the small air gaps are not helping much either. I'm going to fix the air gaps next spring cause i use my electric smoker in the winter.
