My First BBQ Adventure (Pork Butt & Jalapenos)

Here is the beginning of my first BBQ adventure.  The smoker, MES 30, started smoking at about 140 degrees.  Going to try a light soak on the next batch of chips as this one clearly is going to burn out fast.  Using hickory and a very simple rub.  Really this run is just for me to get to know my smoker.  The second picture is the smoke coming out of the wood insert area, even though the insert is in.  Think this is my first opportunity for a mod.  Something removable that can still seal this up better.

It was at the time. I have closed it up some since.

4.5 hour checkup. Learned that I need to lay jalapeños out differently as they are now everywhere.

I forgot to take a picture of the finished product as I was running out to a party so here is a plate of my first home made pork. It is good, but I am already thinking of how I can improve my rub.
