Ok having problems with my new AMNPS cold smoking. Getting lots of white smoke and will not flow out smoke hole and the pellets go out. I've tried cracking door and putting a desk fan pointed up through drip hole. Ive talked with Todd but am hoping someone has a new suggestion that will work. I have seen the mailbox mods but i dont want to cut a bunch of holes in my smoker if i dont have too. i dont have MMMa chip loader. Only two holes in the analog. small drip hole and small vent hole. HELP!!!!!!!!!

Without doing some mods.(cutting holes) i don't think you are going to be able to get enough air flow for the AMNPS to function properly. You may have to drill a hole at the bottom on one side and a hole on the opposite side on top the unit and install butterflys.

Are you using the smoker with the heat off.....   If so, turn it on for a bit until the temp gets to about 80 deg.... turn off the heat....   that burst of heat should start a convection current that "maybe" will draw air in and out, and keep the AMNPS burning...  With a step drill, a few holes in the sides, near the bottom and top will definitely help with air flow....

Yes Dave I'm trying to cold smoke.
Dan, morning...... sorry for the "seemingly" stupid question....  some folks have a different idea what cold smoking is......  Just trying to get things straight in my head.....   OK, did the heat start a draft through the smoker ??  Did it work ??      Dave

The AMNPS works great when the element is on and heating. I ended up warm smoking. But I need to figure out the cold smoking issue so I can make Lox and other cold smoking uses.

I'm wondering if i put a bigger smoke vent in???

Dan, I have to turn the heat on in my MES to get a draft started... the AMNPS is fired up during the heat cycle....  then turn the heat off and the draft should continue...  pull the chute all the way out, and remove the chip pan....  exhaust wide open....  warm the smoker... turn off the heat and see what happens....

That "should" work.......

Dave on my MES model there is no chip loader or vent control. Its a hole to vent and chips go inside in a pan.

Sorry......  I get confused.....

Yes, more air holes......   step drill....  start at 1/2" holes....   or you can get those electrical caps, that fit in holes and snap in, and drill the holes so those caps/plugs fit....

Ok Dave so here is what im thinking? I'm gonna drill another vent hole at the top. I have bought some flat metal that I can cover the hole with when hot smoking. I bought an extra plate incase i have to drill a hole at bottom for more air. Should one hole be bigger than the other? Where should hole in bottom be?

If you are speaking of "holes in the smoker body" near the top and near the bottom, in the side walls...4 holes in all......  2 left side, 2 right side....  top and bottom on both sides...
