Hi all!
My name is Greg and I live in Elk River, Minnesota. I have been making homemade sausage and jerky for the last 2 years but have finally jumped in with both feet....bought my first smoker last weekend!
I found a nice looking vertical propane smoker on Craigslist: Cabela's stainless steel model, 4 feet tall (looks like they just rebadged Weston's model). No insulation, but it looks barely used and the price was right.
So, I'm a total newbie when it comes to smoking. But eager to get going.
Today I stopped at Cabela's and picked up some wood chips: hickory, apple and pecan.
My plan for Saturday is to try smoking a chicken for dinner with the pecan chips. And maybe some beef sticks if I can get them made before then (I found a good-looking recipe on this site).
I'm amazed and grateful for all the fantastic posts and information here. The only problem is I keep staying up late at night to read them!
Thanks,
- Greg
