Hi everyone,

I have been a lurking these forums for a little while now and finally decided to make an account.

I was uncertain what type of smoker would best suit my needs (pellet/electric/gas/charcoal) and through my research I stumbled across this website. After reading through reviews and forum posts I decided that the Weber Smokey Mountain was the smoker for me. I have only had my WSM 18.5" for three weeks now and have smoked (2) pork butts, a whole chicken, a 12 pack of brats, and this upcoming weekend I plan on smoking a couple of racks of ribs. I absolutely love that little smoker! It maintains temps for hours with almost no monitoring what so ever, and produces amazing results! Thank you for all the help selecting my new smoker, I look forward to contributing to SMF!

Thanks,

Slippin

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone!

After the first smoke I realized that a standard meat probe and top temp gauge would not do. I would need some kind of digital thermometer that would tell me the internal temp and grill/smoker temp. I was going to go to the mall and pick up what ever they had there that was cheep, however I decided that I would check back here because of how helpful this site was when I was selecting my smoker. After reading rave reviews/forum posts about the Maverick 732, I decided to order one. Everyone was spot on, I couldn't imagine smoking without one! However the cables were always in the way when opening and closing the lid (I wire mine through the top vent holes), which really bothered me. So back to this site I came, trying to find a solution. The solution that I preferred was drilling a hole in the side of the WSM, putting a grommet in the hole, and feeding the wires through there. So last night thats what I did!

Quick question: I would love to see a BBQ competition! I live in Madison, WI. Anyone know of any smoking competitions near my area?

Thanks,
