Howdy all.  My name is Michael but I also go by "BONES"  I am in Victoria, Texas and only been smoking for a short time.

I was given a Brinkman Electric smoker a few months back and really enjoyed it. The heating element went out on it and I just havn't ordered another one and nobody here sells parts. I've scanned the pages here a few times but never really stopped in.  Today I had to go to Austin and on the way home I stopped at Cabelas to see what they had.  Hoping to get a $30.00 part so I could smoke this weekend.  They had a Masterbuilt 30" Sportsman Elite on sale until 09/02/13 for $179.00 so I dropped two big bills on the counter and walked out with a big box.  Easy to put together and I have it seasoned right now.  I might even hit it again tomorrow just to make sure.

Looking forward to learning about it.

O'h yeah, it is the one with the control box on the top back of the unit and vent hole on the top.  I guess that makes it a first generation?

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!

Welcome aboard, Bones!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  Looking forward to your input here, and just ask when you need anything...someone here will surely have the answer.  Congrats on the new MES, it does sound like a gen 1, which is a better rig than the newer gen models.

Welcome Bones!!  The Masterbuilt Electric Smoker (aka MES) is a good unit.  I have one for smaller jobs and it certainly does the trick.

Good luck with it, and you will be obsessed in no time.
