I don't know if this is a good idea or not.

I have some scrap pieces of venison in the freezer that I'd like to make into dried dog treats.

I talked to someone who has dried that stuff and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to try to smoke it.

I have a small smoker that is an integral part of my gas/charcoal grill.

Unfortunately, there was not one bit of instruction on what to do with the smoker

If this seems doable, I would be grateful for any suggestions.

For brine, I don't think I want salt. Garlic maybe.

Am I crazy?

Thank you

I boil liver up some time for dog snacks. For about 25 minutes, then cut into strip and into the oven for about 30 minutes @ 275.  Anything I put on the smoker, I am going to eat.

If you have scraps you intend for the dogs you might marinade in beef broth, then smoke or dehydrate to desired consistency.  If you taste it first, the dogs might not get it !

Smoke like chocolate can give the dog the shits.  Once my Lab got used to it, it wasn't so bad, but it can be tuff on a dogs system. It was a bad night at the camp, my dog had the shits and my buddy fed him the left over beans. My dog didn't appreciate sleeping outside.......

Thanks for the feedback.

I just got a new pup.

Lady I got her from dehydrates chicken hearts and livers.

I don't have a dehydrator so I wondered if a smoker might do the trick.

Doesn't sound like too good of an idea now
