So there isn't enough room to do a beer can chicken, there is 7" from the top of the gate to the top of the cook Chamber.
jw, morning.......   Drink half the beer.......  put the can on it's side and slide it in the cavity...  beer can chicken sideways.....

Well done on the smoker build.

Nice Dave.  I'll have to remember this one.

Update, the cooker only has 7" from the grate surface to the top of the CC so I won't be doing any beer can chicken with this build. On a better note I had a couple more days to finish working on the build.

Now that is built I wanted to do a test cook in it, JIC I need to make any adjustments prior to painting.

temp holds steady

put on a Boston Butt as I wanted something to truly test out the consistency of the heat.

good burning fire provided just the right amount of smoke/heat

here is about 2 hours in, I don't usually check the meat after only 2hrs but with the smaller cook Chamber I wasn't sure if that would effect the cooking times.

here is after 4hours

Here is where I flipped and sauced it at the 4hr point.

And now it was done after 7.5 hours.

Once I knew it cooked good I went ahead and painted it.

Then I reattached the thermometer and removed the tape from the red handles, and this is the end result.

Hope this helps others decide if this size is right for them, as this tank is commonly available.

Nice looking smoker and the right size for the patio......

Now read my post on fitting a beer can chicken in  your smoker....
