New to smoking...Got a new Masterbuilt 2-door propane smoker

Many have suggested using a skillet over the current chip pan.
Will the wood get warm enough to flame in the skillet; or do you not want it to ignite?

You want it to smolder and make smoke.......Not burn up and make heat!

I also have a two door Masterbuilt gasser as part of my smoker fleet which I use mainly for Ham, beef, etc. Yes I replaced the chip pan with this cast iron skillet with SS bolts supporting it. Interesting note that recently, I've been using the Masterbuilt more for cold smoking butter and cheese with the help of my AMNPS.
