I've been lurking in the shadows here for a few weeks and finally decided to join, seen new people are encouraged to come here and say hi. So, HI.

Just got into smoking over the last couple years, always a beef steak and grill guy. Learned a lot in just the few weeks reading your guy's advice/experiences. Have been using a Masterbuilt propanesmoker for the last year or so, and had decent luck with it. Mostly pork baby backs and pork butts.

But since you guys are all evil and post all these great mods, I just converted my old Char-Griller (no side firebox) into a smoker. Inaugural run going on right now.

So thanks for all the help so far, and I'm sure I'll have all sorts of questions to come.

Having some issues trying to figure out how to post pictures from my phone. Once I figure that out I'll post some pics.

Grill I've had for 7-8 years, spent maybe a month total in out of the Iowa weather. So rust on lid, sides and back, not bad buy quite a bit. So wire wheel and some hi-temp paint But so far I've done the cheap/easy mods. Dryer vent fro chimney to a couple inches off grate level, flipped over charcoal pan, and getting 5-7 degree difference withy Maverick Thermometer from end to end when the temps stable. So far, outside the Side Fire Box, the most expensive part has been a cover (just spent all the time to re-do it, don't want to ruin it already).

Still learning this long smoke process with charcoal/wood. So having to play with it quite a bit. But it's fun and tasty lessons to learn.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a kindle, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
