Well it kind of depends on how you like your beef cooked, rare to well will make a big difference in IT's.
I like my beef med/rare so I will take it to 125-130 unless I'm going to give it a hot sear at the end then it only goes to about 120 or a little below.

You noticed I kept saying beef because we don't get tri tips around here and all you people keep showing pics and I am getting really jealous!!!

I usually pull mine at 130*, we like ours on the rare side.

Ditto on the 130... but then i quick sear on both sides and i finish with around a 140 temp after the sear and rest.

135 followed by a quick sear.

We just did Tri Tip steaks (looks like they were a roast cut into 3-4 inch width pieces) on the grill last night. Took them to 118° IT then a quick hot sear and let them rest about 10 minutes. They had perfectly done for us.

I have learned from reading about Tri Tip on here that if you take it much about medium it will toughen up.

I concur with 130 degrees internal temperature. We cook at 250 degrees and it usually is completed in 1 1/2 hours.
