I cook it well and everything but its just not my favorite cut of meet nor is it close to my favorite food on the smoker. Am I alone?

LOL....well, the Texans are gonna be all over this one!

Personally, my favorite is pork and I don't do brisket that often...not because I don't like it or can't cook it...on the contrary, I love a good brisket and I can cook them up really tender and delicious...but...I'll take a pork butt any day.

Just my preference...I'm sure we'll be hearing more on this subject.

I do understand your "pain".  I prefer the Tri-tips over the briskets.  My total favorite is pork tho! My Husband likes beef better....so here we go!

I am from Texas and, like Kat, I prefer Tri Tip for a beef dish.  Sacrilege I know especially since I've eaten brisket all my life and didn't even know what a tri Tip was until a few years ago.  LOL

Well, beef is king for me. Brisket or prime rib on the top of the list depending on the mood I'm in.

I like pulled/chunk pork from a butt, mostly because it is a NO brainer.Just wait till the bone is coming out easy. NO temps to check, NO probing. NO foiling. .
Now brisket is another story most of the time my flats comes out tasty n tender but dry..Taste much better cold.

so basically i am not alone. i have not tried tritip yet i haven't a clue where to get it, but will look for it and give it a shot.

If you have Wegman's near you, they just started carrying Tri tip. It's pretty pricey at $10.79/pound, but I thought it was worth it.

But answer the original question, I LOVE brisket. (and Tri tip too!)

Given the choice I'd go for just about anything but brisket. I don't hate it, but for the price I can get something much more tender, tasty and easy to cook. Now if it was consistently $.99 a pound, it would be a different story. But for the $6-$8 it almost always seems to be around here, it's just not worth it.

My aunt cooked up a brisket in her oven a couple of weeks ago. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!!

I think I may dislike smoked brisket.

Been using hickory wood tho... maybe that's the problem.

But yeah, I'm with everybody else. Nothing better than pulled pork and pork ribs.

I'm from the San Antonio area of Texas and my family prefers Tri Tip sirloin over brisket. Our Tri Tip recipe calls for cooking the meat rare to medium rare like this.

Brisket on the other hand is a tough cut of beef and requires very long cooks that will tenderize the meat during the process. Don't get me wrong, we love our brisket as well and especially the process of smoking the meat on either a wood smoker or a pellet smoker. The cooking process is fun and at the end, the meat tastes great.

It is just that if you ask my family how they like their meat done, they prefer rare to medium rare. This is for hamburgers to prime rib.

The way I cook the Tri Tip is at 250 degrees and I pull it when the internal temperature hits 130 degrees. Usually this is about 1 1/2 hours of cook time. Now, what I do is I marinade the beef for 3 days in my own special marinade and then place this into the smoker. I then apply my own home grown bourbon glaze to the meat after one hour of cooking and then just before it is foiled to keep warm before serving. If you don't like bourbon glaze, you can always drink the bourbon.

My family prefers the pork as well. My personal opinion is that if the brisket is not cooked perfectly, it's not tasty.

i would have to say Brisket is my first pick ,then Baby Back Ribs are second , from there its what ever is in the smoker is my third pick !

Brisket at $6 to $8 / lb? No wonder you're not crazy about it. Never seen it for over $5 here with the normal being 2.99 to 3.69. On sale at around 2.50 once in a while.

I've been wanting to smoke a brisket lately but also can't seem to find any for less than $6 a pound. I just find it crazy for that cut of meat.
