hello from blue springs mo

Thread Starter
I am new here and came across the website by accident. I was looking for some answers to a question. I just recently bought a ABS Bar B Cube. I am having trouble keeping the fire around 225. 250-270 I can keep all day but I like to cook a little cooler. If you know the smoker you know there are 3 vents on the firebox. One on each side and one in the back. I keep the one in the back closed and the 2 on the sides are 75% or maybe even 80% closed. Could my problem be to much charcoal? I use Kingsford. Any suggestions will help.

When you get a chance will you add your location to your profile?

If you will start an new thread in the charcoal area you will get a lot of help with controling

the heat in your pit.

I don't know the pit that you have. Here are my thoughts on it. It is getting to much air.

Close the bottom dampers more or all the way if that is what it takes. Find all of your

air leaks and seal them up. Fuel and air make heat. You have to be able to contron air

or you will never be able to control heat.

Happy smoken.

I don't know anything about your smoker, but as David says air flow control is the key to temp control in most charcoal rigs. And you may also be on to something with the size of your charcoal fire.
