Started on one for SMF member Shamp...
This will have a firebox on the side and effectively a series of tuning plates, and I'll be trying to direct the flow across vs. simply vertically.

Started with an oil tank. Built frames for each side which fit tightly. These will eventually be welded to the sides, and will support other parts as well:

Strapped them on and cut out a hatch in the front:

Then I put together an "insert" which will slide into the hatch as an assembly and be permanently attached. The doors will be attached to this as well. I may use sliders...not sure yet. Doing it this way sped up the fab time considerably:

That's about where I'm at. This one may or may not end up on a small trailer, which will influence FB design.

Don't think pix are loading...

Ribwizard...pulled the plug on a 230v mig welder...211 autoset. Still like stick for thicker stuff, but it will be nice to run .035!

Jack...this one runs .045, but only in flux core. I have a nice 460v 3ph stick welder when I need to really get after it. My smaller Miller rig was marginal over 1/8"...this should at least handle 3/16" easy.

DQ, evening....   I have welded 1 1/4" with .035 and gas.....   a little preheat is all that is needed.....    Dave

Hi, Dave...good tip if I have to run it...but I really, really like 3/32" 7018! Something about chipping off the slag of a properly done stick weld reminds me of opening a Christmas present!

I agree with the 7018.. get the temp just right and the slag will peel off by itself...

Let's see if the pictures want to post today:
How bout that!
Anyway, here's the "rack module" for lack of a better description. I need to weld in the expanded steel, but you get the idea. Way easier to fab this outside than inside the unit.

Going back a bit, here's the tank:

And here's the legs. The tank is a good tight fit in these. I'll weld a cross piece or two to tie it all together.

From vacation...I wonder how these guys would taste...
