Howdy everyone. My name is Bob and I joined the forum 2 days ago. My wife and I live in the Columbus- Tryon area of NC and a wonderful area for great BBQ. I've been on call at the Hospital and haven't been able to sit down and compose an intro, so here I am. Today I was in the process of upgrading smokers from a Master Forge gas vertical smoker to a Okie Joe Longhorn, which I finished assembly about an hour ago. Looked at the weather radar and won't be able to season till tomorrow. Hope to learn alot about competition smoking. Some friends and I competed in the Blue Ridge BBQ fest 2013. Overall finished 91st out of 97th. Our best result was in pork shoulder where we finished 24th. I'll be looking forward to communicating through the forum with you all.

Thanks for the welcome. I have a couple of questions. 1: I want to place a thermometer to the right of the main cook chamber handle at about 1 inch above cooking height, what type should I use? 2: I want to modify my 2 door Master Forge to a SFB or a rear fire box, the latter require less metal work. Any opinions on this?
