Hi all, been browsing the forums for quite a while so figured that I would just join. My name is Troy and I am a displaced Ohioan living in Minnesota now. I am pretty new to the smoking world. I have done a few things using the indirect grilling method on a gas grill with a smoker box. I have also done a few fatty's both that way and on my buddy's ECB. I just made the decision to try my hand at something more advanced and for the price decided to get the ECB until I can at least get a feel for things and decide if I want to get a more expensive/advanced unit or not. I most likely will not be smoking for large parties or events anytime soon so for just the immediate family, this seemed like a good move. I am going to be doing the mods, seasoning it, and getting my first smoke on this holiday weekend. I am on Day 2 of the 5 day ecourse now.

Any tips, suggestion, or advice anyone can offer, I will gladly accept.

Also, what is a good beginner meat to get started with?

Hiya and welcome to the forums, have fun and enjoy.  I started with chicken, it's cheap and tasty, there are lots of recipes on here, just do a search or browse some

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us! Chickens are a great beginning smoke...and a butt for pulled pork is a great way to season that smoker too.

If you didn't read the Terms of Service notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums. Rule #11......"Off Site Links are not allowed here at SMF" is something new. There are other simple guidelines for all of us to remember as we interact here.

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
