I smoked some chicken quarters last night for the whole purpose of leftovers for the week. First task at hand... first time tamales! I researched a bunch of different recipes online and decided I would do half chili Verde. . And half red chili sauce. I didnt really use exact amounts for either sauce. And the Masa I just followed the directions from package.
6 cups masa
5 cups broth or water
Salt
Cumin
Onion/garlic powder
Marinaded some of the pulled chicken for a few hours half with red..half with green sauce..enjoy the pics..

Fantastic!!! Went to my first tamale wrapping party last Christmas and loved it! Think I'll take some smoked chicken to the next one!

A party would be ideal.. cuts down the making time.. have three or four fillings and let the party begin..

Great looking Tamales.  Chicken is hard to beat, but I use leftover PP and Brisket . Nothing is sacred...drool.gif .

Hope you enjoy them , now I need to plan on some. icon_eek.gif

Wait!!! I hate to see you go through all that work and have the masa seep out!! You must wrap the tamale completely in the banana leaf. Overlap two side by side put the stuffing in the middle then fold over and tie with string. Lemme send you a paper towel example

Ok sorry I panicked. I just didn't want you to loose your hard work. Being married to a Cuban tamales are second nature to us. Hope this helps.
*soak the banana leaves too it makes them easier to work with

That sure looks like fun.... Chicken tamales are good, but homemade salsa Verte and masa are out-frickin standing!

Foam likes a good tamale!

Mexican tamales are not wrapped in banana leafs.  Just the corn husk like the OP has shown.

They haveabeen in the steamer upright for about 45 mins... and a few of my wraps have come undone.. lets hope thr others hold together... I figured upright with open end up they would hold together... lesson learned.. ; l

Awwwww Dude, a cheezy little pic of the money tamale?? Whattttttttttt??? LMAO.....hey, take a BIGGER pic of that salsa verde tamale for me.....my almost fav salsa....Gawd, I love it. Great way to use up the left-overs so it's not really a 'left-over'. Same masa I used when I did PP ones a few months back. That stuff rocks and easy to make. Truth...I didn't tie mine at all (lazy?). I did make mine smaller than yours with nothing sticking outta the top and, like you, stood them up in the pan....worked great although I did use the steamer at work (oblong) instead of the round tamale steamer available for sale. Great job, regardless of a few blowouts, for your first time and you'll only get quicker and better at it......Willie
