So I just picked up my new smoker. It's an Oklahoma Joe's Lonkhorn. It was previously owed but never used, not even had a fire built in it. This will be my first stick burner. Any suggestion on some basic mods I should do to tune it up would be greatly appreciated. Also I have gotten fairly comfortable with my MES 40. What are some basic tequniques I will need to learn compared to my MES? What should I be aware of with this particular smoker? Do I need to burn a fire in it to season it or break it in? I would like to test it out on some ribs this weekend before our big 4th of July BBQ next week. I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I would hate to ruin anything. I keep leaning towards using my MES since that's what I'm comfortable with. I'm not totally clueless so with a little help I'm sure I can make some decent BBQ.

Thanks
CM

Yes you need to season it.At the same time you will be learning about your smoker. If you don't learn to control heat you are pissing in the wind. so to speak. I would start with a chicken for my first smoke. they can handle a big temp swing.

Give it a whirl and see what happens. Look for all air leaks. then seal them up. If you can't control air. you can't control heat. Remember yo post Qview.

Happy smoken.

Nice.  What did something like this set you back? Just curious as I'm looking at used units as well.
