I have a Smoke Hollow 30in electric smoker .  I love this smoker but my problem is ( not really a problem but a dilemma ) I cannot achieve a smoke ring on my meat while smoking with this unit.   I have researched and talked to other fellow electric smoker owners and they all mention they get the same results.   Something about the gases that the charcoal or actual fire produce creating the ring.

I happened to do a little further research and stumbled upon an article somewhere about adding a couple charcoal briquettes to the chip pan and that will give me the Smoke Ring I'm looking for .

My Question is ... have any of you heard of this or tried this or even so much as tried this method.  I realize there is no benefit of the smoke ring other than overall appearance.

I don't have an electric smoker but I have read about adding the briquettes and they claim good results.  I don't mean to hijack your thread but I fail to understand the obsession with the smoke ring.  Been makin Que and eatin others Que for almost 50 years.  Some with, some without smoke ring.  I know we also eat with our eyes but it does nothin for the taste of tha Que as far as I can tell.  "I wouldn't feed that Que to my dog; BUT LOOK AT THAT SMOKE RING!" ??  Am I missing something here?  Maybe one of the BIG DOGS will come along soon and help us both out.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

Totally agree with ya as I posted above ,  NO benefit to the ring other than appearance.   A few of guys I run with etc for whatever reason get off on the smoke ring "whatever"  and I get that we eat with our eyes but my eyes cant tell or taste how freaking good this Q is.

Im doing a small wedding in a few weeks and am kinda shooting for the presentation factor as well as the overall taste.  My flavor profile is spot on.    As I mentioned above just curious if anyone has heard or tried this method..
