So I was at my local used tool dealer looking for a welder

and saw this sitting in the corner. After a little negotiation I bought this and a good condition 60 gallon compressor tank for $150. I did not take any pics of the woodstove before I took it to get bead blasted but here's the after pics. Measures 16" X 20" and the outlet I.D. is 5.750" 

I will pick up the tank tomorrow. A quick check on Feldons Pit calculator says  I am a little small on the firebox volume and the outlet but not by much.  Not sure if I need to cut out the baffle inside the firebox?

That looks like an Orly wood stove....  I had one in the 70's.....

Dave thank you for that info!! 

I had not looked at the little placard on the base and when I called the guy at the blasting shop to tell him to write down the info/name it was too late. It was driving me nuts trying to find out who made this thing!  Just looked up Orley stove and that's what it is.

The Feldons pit calculator says I am 10% too small on the firebox  and a little small on the firebox to cook chamber opening -is that going to be a big problem?

No..... It will be a little problem......   Make the FB and FB/CC opening bigger if you can......    While you are trying to build the best smoker in town, don't skimp now.....  you are going to put a lot of hours into a build.....  and probably a fair amount of money....

Dave thanks!,

  would you agree I need to cut out the baffle in the firebox?   I just took another look out the outlet pipe. It is actually an oval shape where it is welded to the firebox, so if I cut the  outside end at a matching angle it will probably help, but it will be tight trying to weld it to the cook chamber. My wife really likes the little stove and thinks I should weld an adapter sleeve to the tank so I could just slip it in without altering the stove. She also had the pretty nifty idea of using a vertical cabinet style cook box.  Kicking myself now for not taking the free fireproof filing cabinet I found a while back.

I would say the baffle needs to come out... you are already a little undersized and the baffle will also hurt ya some as well... but that is a cool looking little stove... maybe just cut the end of the tank off and make it a little smaller ? just a thought...
