OK guys here's the question:

What is the best way to generate PROLONGED smoke in a modified Brinkman ECB charcoal smoker?  Dry Chips?  Soaked chips?  Chunks?  Soaked chunks?  Right on the coals?  In a cast iron smoker box? In a foil pouch?

If these are your options, what would you do?  Also any additional info is always appreciated!

Also, how long should you expect the smoke to last with the preferred method?

Thanks!  Really appreciate the help!

I think that the charcoal setup on the ECB is similar to the Weber smokey mountain. Here's how I do it.....

I simply mix 5 or 6 chunks throughout the unlit charcoal. This creates smoke as long as the coals are burning and I never need to add more. If you look closely you can see a few peeking out from amongst the briquettes. Don't waste your time with chips.

Thanks Damon555, I'm going to try this out later this afternoon.  Only doing a short smoke with some ABT's and chicken, so kinda a low risk smoke to try this out.  Will post how it worked for me later tonight!

Well, here's the update.  The ABT's turned out awesome and I was able to keep a steady temp.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a hold of chunks for smoking, so I used some leftover chips I had from last season.  Chicken also turned out great!
