I've been somewhat successfully smoking for a couple years.  Always felt a little like I was cheating because I had a Bradly with those little pucks.  Finally wore it out enough that I felt like I needed a new one.  I really struggled with what to purchase, but ended up with a new MES 40".  I've taken it out of the box, and wondered what I got myself into.  That thing is huge.  Guess I'll just have to double the meat and throw in a couple chickens.

After reading several posts regarding this smoker on this site, I'm wondering if I made the right decision.  Haven't even started the burn in process yet, and am quite honestly a bit overwhelmed.  I'm thinking I should just stop reading and start smoking.  Once I've used it a few times, maybe some of these mods and AMNPS smokers will make more sense.  I'm a bit skeptical about the AMNPS with the pellets that you need to buy.  Am I replacing my proprietary pucks with proprietary pellets?

Any feedback is appreciate.

Thanks

I have a mes 30 and use a amnps. A cup of pellets will last at least 10 hours. So much cheaper than pucks.

Have fun and start smoking.

Welcome to the forums!  Glad you've joined us.  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastimes...grilling, smoking, and curing great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask any time you need help and you'll get plenty!

Your question about the AMNPS:  you have to burn something in that MES to produce smoke...so why not burn something that's easy to use and doesn't need to be reloaded every half hour?  The AMNPS is the bomb!  You'll see by reading the many posts and threads here regarding Todd's products that everyone who every used one highly recommends it.
