Here is a funny story for all of you.   Last week I was looking at buying a WSM and found one for a pretty good deal.   It was on sale online and would ship to a store in my hometown that I happen to work at.  The company I work for also sells through the business I bought the wsm through. So my work gave me a note today saying they were out of stock(going to back order) and would be able to ship the wsm on the 20th.  I talked to one of our salesman who said it was weird because he got an email saying that it was shipped and then another email that he gave me saying it was back ordered.

Here is the funny part.  I received this email today when I got home.

Hello,

This is to notify you that your order number ••••••• for the black smoker, did not ship as ordered.  Unfortunately, that item is banned in your state.   I apologize for the inconvenience.

I have refunded you in full for $•••.•• so you should see that on your next billing statement.  Please let me know if you have any questions on this or need anything else.

I never would of thought the wsm would be banned in my state.   I live in Iowa.  The price of the wsm on the site also went up about 70$ not including tax all of a sudden.  I will keep everyone posted to see if this company will honor their price mess up.  It should work out good for me because I live next to Wisconsin and Illinois so one of the states should allow wsms and my work sells this companies products.  I don't want to get anyone in trouble but saying the wsm is banned in Iowa is outrageous.  Hopefully someday I will be able to smoke some meat on this banned item.

On a side note the part of my oven that gets hot broke yesterday.  It looked like someone was welding when it broke.  So tonight I forgot that it was broken and decided to make Creme Brulee.  The creme brulee ended up going into my MES 30 @ 275.  It looked like it will turn out pretty good.  I have to let it rest and then put in the fridge to chill.  It will be some good ole redneck french cuisine.

That's outrageous!!! Out of curiousity, I googled it and got hits for a BBQ joint in Iowa that sells them, hardware stores etc!!! Too funny.

Anyway, let us know how the Creme Brulee turned out!!! Pics if you got them!

It's those d*** smokin police again!  Paraphrased:

First they came for the communists,

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

find a place to buy one...and go get it!

This is something I would expect here in Kalifornia, not Iowa. I once tried to buy the same fireplace my Dad had installed and was told it couldn't be sold in Kalifornia anymore. I asked why, and it said the company didn't want to spend the $100K to get an environmental approval permit (Clean-Air act or some such crap). I said "It's a damned fireplace, whatever you burn in it is going to make smoke come out the top and there ain't any way to stop that from happening unless you don't light it in the first place."

Probably some ultra left liberal employee saw it was described somewhere as a "Bullet" smoker and had a knee jerk reaction equating it with a firearm.  I would make sure they told me exactly how they determined it was a banned product and on what statute/regulation they were basing this.

Does Iowa have any sort of restrictions on buying ammo or other "bullet" supplies through the mail or at retail?

False

Heres a letter from Weber.

Dear

Thank you for your email and inquiry.   The Smokey Mountain Cookers are not banned in Iowa.  This rumor seems to have originated from a blogger on the Virtual Weber Bullet website.  This information was not provided by Weber, but some unknown "online" retailer.

Actually they changed the rule in NY.  Now you can have ten but only load 7 if you are away from home and not on a shooting range......
icon_rolleyes.gif
You mean I can only put charcoal in 7 of my smokers and have to let the others stand there, but I can load all 10 smokers if I am cooking at the range... makes sense

Or is that you can only load 7 charcoal briquettes in a smoker or grill in you are in NY?  You know they will want to register anyone who purchases more than 20 briquettes at a time next!  And tax you a $1 per briquette.   It's called a bullet of meat destruction.....

Interestingly, the guy who was arrested and charged with a felony last week for having nine....umm...lumps of charcoal in his legally possessed...err..WSM is in a county where the DA chose to not prosecute.  Quite a number of county sheriffs and DAs have stated that they won't enforce the SAFE Gun Act..err...SAFE WSM act.

Now Governor Cuomo is trying to distance himself from the SAFE WSM Act by having his senior staff say to various news outlets that Mayor Bloomberg's staff wrote the bill and that the governor really didn't know what was in it when he signed it.

huh.gif
Gives ya great confidence to know the Governor is signing Bills with no clue what's in em!  I know, I know; he was mistreated as a child and has low self-esteem.  The bigger boys told him to sign it.  Keep Smokin!

I question Weber's reply. I am a member at TVWBB and I'd never heard of this until I read it here. I asked over there and no ones heard of it. Weird.

Yeah I agree that where they say the rumor originated may be false, but it clears up the banned in Iowa dilemma.
