Newbie Question thanks in advance for any help and suggestions!!

First off I just wanted to say the forum looks great. I guess my first question is what is a good quality vertical propane smoker that does not require alot of modifications out of the box? I am really interested in getting into smoking but do not want to have to fiddle with the smoker to get it working right out of the box as I am not really good with my hands when it comes to making modifications nor do I really have the tools probably to do the modifications.

I was also wondering if the AMNS products are basically used in place of the chip pan and which is recommended for vertical propane smokers the tube or the box one? Also do you need to order your pellets from the website or can you purchase pellets from other places to use in the products?

Sorry about the beginner questions but look forward to hearing suggestions from other members here. Thanks in advance for any replies I may recieve and hope you all are doing great. I look forward to interacting in the forum and learning to do some quality smokes.

Welcome , bud. Are you leaning towards an electric or propane smoker? Those are pretty set it and forget it....:grilling_smilie:

I'm partial to the GOSM's but the Masterbuilt's are very good as well. I think to hot smoke you'll need the Amazen Tube Smoker. Not sure that you have to buy the pellets from Todd but he has such a good selection and great customer service with competitive prices I can't see buying them elsewhere personally

I am actually leaning towards a propane smoker simply because I dont want to have to have it plugged in to use it. I took a further look at the forums and seen there are a few good options just basically not sure what a good beginner smoker with less hassle would be, I wont really be smoking large amounts of meat at one time but if I can one that is bigger for close to the same money that I will not have to do a bunch of modifications too that would be great as well. Thanks and I appreciate any help that I can get.

Thanks for the reply Piney, I have heard great things about the GOSM's and masterbuilts as well, I think I will more than likely end up going with the dual door Landmark GOSM. ALso thanks for the information on the Amazen tube smoker as it seems like alot of people swear by them. So do I remove the chip pan before while using it or what exactly?

I've seen people just lay the tube in the chip pan. I've also seen it put right on the bottom of the smoker off to one side, also seen it put on the very bottom rack. Seems almost any position will work, might just have to try a few different places to see what works best for you.

With that budget, I'd seriously suggest looking at a Smoke Hollow 44 from SamsClub. WIth tax/shipping, it's just a bit over $300. You'll save some if you can find it @ your local Sams. My brother gave me one recently as an early Bday present and I'm in heaven right now. The thing is freaking huge ! I just finished smoking 10 Butts (about 80+ pounds) and still had room left over in it. Another good thing is that it has dual burners, so you can run temps down around 200 with a single burner, or crank both up on high and use the thing like an outdoor oven.

I know you said that you won't be smoking lots of meats at one time, but once you really get into it, and if you have the space, you'll find yourself smoking more and more things that you never thought of before :)

I have 2 smaller Smoke Hollow smokers that I used for years and my biggest complaint with them was their size. I didn't like the fact that I had to cut rib racks in half to actually get them to fit. Or that I was otherwise limited on space due to the smaller racks. That isn't a problem anymore :)

There are other "wide body" smokers out there, but I don't have any experience with them so can't really comment on them one way or the other aside from saying that if I was in the market for another smoker, I'd definitely get a wide/big one.

Thanks Demosthenes9, I will definately take a look at the smoke hollow 44, I just recently renewed the sams club membership that the wife thought we needed so what better way to use it lol, I guess the size thing you mention if probably a good idea since it would suck to want to smoke alot of meat sometime and not have the space and its not like I have to use up all the space everytime for it to still do a good job. Thanks again and it seems like the more I look at smokers the more choices become available lol Hope everyone is having a great week so far and thanks again for all the suggestions hopefully I will make up my mind on which unit to get and have some good smoking stories to share soon enough. I know I am gonna buy some Amazin products also to help with the smoking because everyone has great things to say about them.

YW hangin. As for the Amazen products, I picked up an 18" and 2 12" tube smokers. Man, those things are wonderful. Light them and no need to worry about adding more chips/chunks.
