Guys I have a 60 gal air tank I want to build a smoker out of and I'm not sure if I want to go vertical or lay it down with a firebox. Need some ideas !
Just found this thread, but if you haven't done anything with your air tanks yet, this is what I did with mine. I've been using it for about 2 1/2 years now and made some vent changes just last spring. It fits 18.5" Weber grates very well and I have it set up currently to hold 3 grates. I've done 6 pork butts at once, 12lbs of wings and a hover grill full of appetizers, and other various combinations but it holds quite a bit of food and is very efficient. With my new vent set up(very non-sophisticated) once the temp is dialed in and lid closed it will hold within 230-245 degrees for 8+ hours. So if you havent done anything with it yet, feel free to PM me and I can give you more details. I have less than $100 in extra materials used to build it so it's great for a small budget and way more efficient than a horizontal smoker built out of the same size tank. And if you have two tanks you could potentially build two of these and have the option to cook at different temps or just use one if you don't need both!
