Hi All

My name is randy and i'm new to smoker cooking.  I  live in cal and i have a brand new never been used brinkman  smoker .

I going test it out  this out on some cheap chicken and see what happens . I'm using apple wood chips .

I have a question.  Can i use a smoke box  with a charcoal smoker or can i use the smoker chip pan. How much of the chips do i put in ?

Like i say i'm a nwebie here and thanks for your feed back.

I don't use charcoal much but when I do I use chunks and just place them in the charcoal.

Welcome to the forums,Randy! Glad you've joined us. You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastimes...grilling, smoking, and curing great food! There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another. Just ask any time you need help and you'll get plenty!

There a few ways to get smoke on that Brinkmann with chips...you can use a chip box or tray with just a handful of chips at a time (you'll have to reload it about every 30-45 minutes), or you could make chip pouches with foil and poke a few little holes in the top of the foil for the smoke. Make up 3 or 4, then just throw one on the coals at a time as needed. Like Dave, I prefer to use fist sized chunks and just throw a couple at a time directly on the coals.

Good luck!
