So I built my UDS. I still have some things to finish on it but it's a smoker now. Got 2 barrels from the scrap yard for $4 each. Picked up a few nuts and bolts, some expanded metal, and some new grates from Home Depot. I had a Sears kettle style grill with a hinged lid that I used the lid off of.

Curing...... the lid doesn't fit

So I cut a strip out of the other barrel and riveted it in on the existing one. Hole is great to stick the thermometer probes through.

Can I help daddy?

Looks like it is smoking fine, well done, to upload pics, click on the 8th from the end icon above.  or 2 left of the paper clip.  Insert images will open and that is how I do it.  Hope that helps

UDS are the king of the cookers imo (not size) but end result.   It makes me want to (Tim Taylor) grunt every time i see some mouth watering bbq coming off a drum!

Looks good. I tried putting my remote temp leads through, but I need to drill a bigger hole. I also had the same lid you had,. but couldn't use it because it was bent.

Yes the images look good.

Thanks for all the feedback! While I was planning this build people kept asking me why I didn't just go buy one. Where's the fun in that though!
