Might have been a still house. You can check the county records to see when the building was add to the property taxes and what it was listed as.

You beat me on that one michael ark, I was wondering if it was big enough for a still.  Was also thinking, maybe a housing for a primary or emergency electric generator.

I guessing it is a smoke house....   Look for a downhill grade where a fire pit and underground pipe may have been, that led to the building...  Smell the rafters for a hint of smoke....  I would use it as is....  Old timers knew how to build smokers that worked very well... There may be indicators of a small fire in the middle of the floor somewhere....   for cold smoking, small fires were usually used and burned for 6-24 hours then left for a day and restarted for 6-24 hours...   Fires were small enough as to not allow the temp to rise above 70 ish degress inside the smoker...

It will be interesting to what you find, after a thorough investigation of the surrounding area... Take pics of anything that looks interesting...

It appears a lot of care was given to the site it was built on.... elevated to keep moisture away from the slab and blocks...

In picture #1, to the left of the building in the distance, it looks like a metal chimney with a new section of stack on the top ??  could be something else....  just curious....
