smoking before slow cooker

hello fellow smokers!

i just had a brainstorm and was wondering if anybody on here has ever smoked their pork ribs for x amount of time before putting them in a slow cooker with a heavy basting sauce

im planning on trying this on sunday (its friday here in australia) and am thinking i may have stumbled upon a new method, see i have given my offset a good run for its money and am looking to experiment with some other methods.

has anybody heard of this method? i am hoping not to waste the 6 or 8 hours this would take if it has been tested and failed

Ribs in a slow cooker ???  The meat would be tender but loose it's character....  The smoke flavor may intensify like it does when canning meat that has been smoked....   I would start with 1/2 hour of smoke.... or something in the ballpark....

I would suggest a shot of heavy smoke after they come out of the slow cooker.

well they turned out phenomenal

after rubbing the ribs down with my favourite 'suckle busters award winning competition bbq rub' i left them to sit in the fridge for 2 hours, i then hit them with some hickory chunks over coals for 2 hours at 275f, i then pulled them from the smoker and put them in the warmed up slow cooker while i prepared the basting bbq sauce which was

2 cups ketchup

1 cup chilli sauce

1/2 cup brown sugar

4 Tablespoons Vinegar

2 Teaspoons worcestershire sauce

2 Teaspoons oregano

1 Teaspoon cayenne pepper

a few shakes of chipotle tobasco

i then coated the ribs in the above mixture and set to cook low for 5 hours

the experiment went exactly as planned and resulted in beautiful fall off the bone sticky ribs with a good strong hickory smoke taste

a few things i might do different next time

-ease up on the chilli, it was too much for my taste

-decrease time in the slow cooker as i was content with the texture but i would prefer a bit more stability in the end product

sorry i didnt post photos, i intended to once i started but i couldnt put them down
