finally got started over the weekend here are some pics of fire box and tank

I am getting close on my build but before i get to far i would like some feedback from some of you with experience in this. I have my drawing posted here and will get some pics later today. I was mostly concerned about temperature from bottom to the top if the verticle cc

Could someone tell me if I would benefit by putting some kind of heat sinking material in the dead space at the rear of my fire box? If not I was thinking about making a warmer box out of that space. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thermal mass will help even out temps...   Thermal mass usually works better in the cook chamber to keep the temps even...    Dave

Thanks , I'm leaning toward a warmer , I think I can get 2 racks in there 10 " wide x 24 " deep.

Been working on my pipe burners and a log starter ,don't know how many holes Iv'e drilled but its a bunch . I guess my next step will be assembling those burners . My wife and I have been traveling to see different doctors in Chicago ,Houston , and Nashville for a couple of weeks so I lost some smoker time but I hope to be settling down for a while. I have been fighting cancer for a couple years and needed to change my treatment ,looks like Nashville is the place for me. Building this smoker and cooking meat has been a great hobby for me. I'm ready to get it done and start fine tuning my cooking skills(may take a while) lol. Will get some pictures soon.

. While we were in Houston I stopped by Tejas smokers and picked up a regulator and some fittings to hook up all gas connections I also got some parts to build this Venturi for the log lighter. I cut the other 3 venturies I needed with the plasma ,this was much simpler.

I just had to pick up a bell reducer and weld a piece of flat bar across the end ,drill a hole for the orifice fitting and screw it into an 1/8x1/4" bush, then hold it in place with a 1/4" locknut on the back side.
