Tri-Tips/Black Betty and finally found something my Hubby Liked!

Yesterday I finally did my trip-tips.  Have never cooked them before and I will do them again.  Got Black Betty all fired up and tried a new technique with her...indirect heat.  Had marinated the Tri's in some Moore's marinade.  Was going to do them on Sunday...but it rained all day.  So the marinade really turned the tips dark...but what the hay!  Off they go into Black Betty!

 

I found these at Costco a couple of months ago. Pulled them out to thaw.

 

Used a TupperWare marinade thing over night...and the dark color is from the Moores.

 

Black Betty and it was 5:00 somewhere! Yuengling is my Beer of Choice!

Enjoying the TBS....and the gorgeous day!

 

They are done....and I wish I had pulled them off just a bit sooner...but it was okay. Would have liked them to be a bit pinker!  Not bad for the 1st time!

 

 

Here is my plate....Tri-tips, fresh romaine salad, and crowder peas!

 

AND....home made Blackberry Cobbler for dessert....and that is another post today!

 

My Hubby said....this was amazing.  Now...he didn't want me to get the Weber anyway!  HA!  He has found out he really likes what I have done on her so far!

Mmm! Looks tasty!

 

I need to fire up my kettle again one of these days, and I haven't smoked a tri-tip yet...might have go hunt a couple down, now.

Eric.....found out what all the fuss is about.  They are wonderful...and Lynn actually liked them...a rare thing indeed...he is really picky!

Tri-tips looks excellent! Did you use charcoal separators?

Mr. T....Thanks Dear!  I am loving Black Betty!

 

 

WC.....yes I did...when I bought Black Betty I did get those.  There is some "old charcoal" in the middle that I haven't taken out.  But used the separators...and a chuck of hickory in both.  Tasted amazing.  The indirect grilling/smoking is something I have not done before.  Love it...and it didn't take that long either.  My neighbor called and asked what I was smoking that night!  biggrin.gif

Wait until you cook a whole chicken or turkey like that. All this recent talk of Weber kettles is getting me motivated.

I am soooo not a "name brand" person...and usually will do the opposite!  BUT....now with Black Betty....I am hooked.  To me it's worth the hype and the extra money to get one.

 

Totally a happy camper!

It's good that you found a cut that your significant other enjoys eating...that's one more step towards happiness!

 

I've been catching threads about tri-tips for years, and now that our nest is getting smaller, a couple of these would be a viable choice for something a little different on the plate. Wife says they do carry them in one of our area grocery stores...I've read that they're not common in some areas (some butchers don't know the cut), but maybe we're some of the lucky ones.

 

Once I catch my breath a bit, I'll have to grab some up for a smoke.

 

Oh, and the Weber kettles, yeah, they are worth it...got my 18.5" gold as a 10-yr service award from work a few years back...I can't cook on it enough...great fire control and even heating.

Looks Great Kat! Like I said in one of my threads I prefer Tri-tip over brisket! In fact Tri-tip is one of my favorite cuts of beef! I'm sure I will be doing another one this weekend. Hope to find some Red oak so I can try the Santa Maria Tri tip!

Morning Kat......that is some great looking Q.........now I want one. And, yes, here in CA we are spoiled. We can get the tips "natural" (with the fat)......peeled (trimmed)....or the ball tip which is the end where the tri-tips are cut from (so I'm told).

Once you and BB get to know each other a bit better, you will be amazed at how good she will work for you. I got my first one over 25 years ago and now I have two of them.
