Can I make burnt ends this way?

I would like to smoke something that I can do in a quick afternoon.  I thought I could try to smoke some burnt ends.  Does anybody know if this would work?

1. Buy a small roast.

2. Cut it up into small pieces 1x1 inch

3. put in tinfoil tray

4. smoke for 4 hours 225-250

I've only made burnt ends using the point of a smoked brisket, never this way.

Any ideas?

try it and see how they turn out....a lot of the best smoking ideas come from trial and error

Sounds like it would work. I would suggest finding a chuck roast with a bit of fat in it since the point of the brisket has seams of fat in it.  A lean cut wouldn't work if your trying to mimic burnt ends.

I would do the roast whole for 4 hours then cut into 1 inch pieces, sprinkle on more rub and return to the smoker for a couple of mor hours.  I find that using the perferated grill pans work great for returning the end to the smoker.
