I started my stumps clone and the cook chamber is 24x24x36 and I was going to build the ash box 8h x 8d x 12w but if like to c change it to only be 6 inches tall instead of 8...can anyone see any issues with this?

Howdy BigT.....  I looked up Stump's Smokers and he builds horizontal, vertical, reverse flow, tailgate grills, backyard grills...... etc.....

What stumps are you cloning ??? Have you got a picture and dimensions??   I could use some more info to try and help....

Dave

I'm cloning a gravity feed. I'm attaching a picture of my framing that I have so far.  Outside dinentions are 26x36x46, the cook chamber will be 24x24x36.  The area on the left will hold a 6"x6" charcoal chute.

Big T, morning..... Well, I have looked all over the web to try and find design stuff on the smokers...  If you are using a friends smoker as a design model, I would build it the same...   Those smokers must have some critical design features that should not be compromised...

So, I can't say whether or not it should be done...  Sorry....   I know I'm not much help....    Dave

I have built a clone and went with only a 6" ash area it will work fine but you will have to empty out ash more often is the only down fall but for me was trying to make as small of a cooker as possible and knew that going in and it doesn't bother me at all.
