This DO was my Grand Mother's.  I finally got to lay hands on it for a while this week.  Monday I made home made beef stew and it was wonderful.  Here is the Stew View and DO views.

it is not this gray....but the outside needs some seasoning

here is the bottom....cant see any markings

Inside is great

inside of lid....wanna re-do this

Top of lid.

Have no clue what brand this is.  I just know its old....and still works great!

I don't know why for sure but I sure like old cast iron. You'll have it looking like new when your done. Makes you wonder why people stop using them. It is in very good condition must have been taken care of.

And it will last forever.  You will be giving it to your grand kids one day (and that's what it's all about!)

I have a bunch of cast iron things that I am re-seasoning right now.  Been busy!

Kathryn...pretty sure that thing is just getting broken in...

I only have two pieces of cast iron (16" skillet and 14" skillet) both of which were gifts from my mother...she has a plethora of cast iron that I'll inherit when the time comes she can no longer lift/cook!

I've had to re-season my 16" skillet as the spousal unit cooked something in there that it apparently didn't like and I might have cleaned it too aggressively?

We use cast-iron exclusively hunting (my buddy's dad is lovingly referred too as the cast-iron chef). He has a wooden crate/box that's full of cast-iron, weighs about 150lbs...

Nice looking stew!

XLNT piece.....still use my Grandmothers DO as well, no markings either. Also have some Le Creuset I bought along the way that I'll be passing down when the time comes.

I just scrolled thru the first 10 pages on e-bay and didn't see anything with a solid handle on the cover.
I have been doing research too.....looking in the cast iron collectors stuff...cant find anything that looks like it.  Most have the 'wire" type handle.

LOOKS GOOD Kat! next time make some rolls or bread first in the DO, then your stew!!! Now how about a salt encased dry aged prime rib???

I have a new appreciation for my cast iron cookware since joining this forum. For years a lot of it just sat on the shelf. I knew they were too good to get rid of , but they didn't get a lot of use.
That is changing these days thanks to folks like you. Thanks for sharing. :grilling_smilie:

Congrats Kat the DO looks almost as good as your stew. I love cast iron it just makes everything taste better.

Great looking black pot and nice stew Kat. It's official, Kat has a severe case of castironitis!

Nice Toy. I have two 1950's Aluminum Dutch Ovens. They get used frequently for braised dishes but they do not come close to the heat retention of Cast Iron...JJ
