So I decided to try my hand at chicken quarters for the first time this weekend.  My wife and son really like orange chicken from Panda Express so I decided to try a little twist on that and use a bottle of the orange chicken sauce as a marinade and baste on 4 of the quarters.  Hopefully they will taste good this way.  I guess we will see.  The other 6 were rubbed with EVOO and a lemon pepper rub that I really like called "The Dizzy Pig Shakin' the Tree" rub.  I brined the chicken the night before for a couple hours using a basic brine.  I am using apple wood to smoke with so it will have a lighter smoke flavor.

Here are a couple photos before they they went in the smoker.

Here Is a pic of the chicken about half way through.

I started out smoking at a a lower temp of 220 degrees for the first few hours Then bumped it up to 275 degrees help crisp the skin.  I put them on the grill for a few min since the wife like crisp skin.

These are from right before I pulled them with IT of 165 degrees

Here is the chicken after a couple minutes on the grill for the wife.

Well the the orange sauce marinated chicken turned out pretty good.  It gave the meat a unique taste.  Rubbed chicken was awesome.  I will be making it like this again.  In total the chicken took a little more than 4 hours on the smoker.  My youngest son tried the marinated chicken and don't care for it, so he had the rubbed chicken instead.  My oldest son and daughter both had the rubbed chicken and refused to try the other. Oh well I tried. Both my wife and I really liked it, but next time I think it will be all rubbed meat not marinated.  It went well with the stuffing and green beans my wife made to go with the chicken.

Thanks for looking
