Does this cherry wood look safe to use?

My uncle gave me some perfectly sized cherry chunks but they sort of look off to me. My oak and mesquite don't have nearly as much black running through them.  I've never had cherry before so would love your opinions.  Sorry for the blurry photos, took them with my phone.  The first photo doesn't look bad at all.  But if you look at the second photo, you'll see what I mean about all the black streaks.   Nearly every piece is like that.

I am no wood expert but color variation can be based on many thing. Amount of water received over the years, type of wood and oxidation from exposure to air. Mold is really the only concern I can think of. Others may be able to provide more info...JJ
 
If it smells musty, I wouldn't use it. I found a big box of apple that my grandfather had boxed up 20 years ago. It smelled musty when I put it in the smoker so I pulled it. On the other hand I do a lot of cooking over an open fire and never have any problems.
