We (myself and She Who Must Be Obeyed) bought each other a Masterbuilt 30" Gas Smoker for Christmas and have been learning more and more each day.  Thus far we have smoked baby back ribs, whole chickens, boneless pork loins, turkey breasts and a corned beef brisket.  I didn't bother to buy smoking wood as we own an orange grove on the Indian River and have PLENTY of orange & grapefruit wood available to us.  We've been really pleased with everything we've smoked thus far.  We both prefer dry rub to BBQ sauce, so Jeff's Rub has been the go to choice for everything we've done.  We are always pruning dead wood out of our citrus trees, so we have stockpiled lots of citrus to use in smoking.  I cut small (about the diameter of your wrist) chunks of wood about 3" long to use in our smoker.  It burns up to nothing but light grey ash, so there's not much to dump on the garden after smoking.  Thought I might like to try some other woods, but we've really been pleased with our results thus far, so why monkey with success (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).  We have some GIANT Live Oaks on our property that are always dropping a dead limb or two, so I thought I might want to try some of that someday.  If there is anybody that might like to try citrus wood, I would be willing to swap for whatever wood you might have.  You send me a medium "If it fits it ships" box of your favorite wood and I'll send you the same size box back.  Simply drop me a line if you're interested.

We really enjoy the Smoking newsletters we get and have used this site often to make sure we're doing it right.  Thanks for all the help, even when you didn't know you were helping!  We have a website, so if you want to know our location or see the grove, drop me a line and I'll send you a link (I don't figure Jeff wants to allow commercial websites on his forums) to our grove information.

I look forward to reading all your tips and techniques for future smoking reference.

Have a GREAT day,

RUHokie
