I bought a maverick thermometer for it and fired it up today got well over 300 deg. I have to play around with the burners and the dials I mounted to get lower temps. I want to smoke sausages we started making and try some beef jerky. I need to get down and hold at around 150 deg.? The burners came out of a dual hot plate $5 bucks (flea market) special! One is for warming 550 watt and the other is 1100 watt.  Hope you guys like it. Hopefully this weekend ill have it figured out and smoke some stuff lol

WOW!  You made quick work of that. Nice job You sure show how simple a fridge smoker transformation can be now how about a few details. Are you useing 110v for power and how high of temp can you get with both elements on? Whats the smoke source going to be pan of chips or generator? And last but not least how about a Qview or better said some CHOPSHOTS

Yes I'm using 110v I just used all of the same wires from the dual hotplate. I picked it up for 5 bucks at a flea market. One is 550w (warming plate) the other is 1100watt (cooking plate) I got it up to 330 deg  today. I have to play around with it I want to get it down to and hold around 150/160 deg for sausage and jerky. I put new insulation all the way around, and mounted the control dials from the hot plate. The fridge apparently was dropped upside down from a truck so I hammered it out the best I could. Ill be happy to answer any other questions. Oh yeah and I'm gonna start off just using chips in a ss bowl. Then probably go with amznps. For cheese and what not lol

It's 110v dual hotplate I tore apart and mounted the control dials. 5 bucks from the flea market. I'm gonna start with chips and ss bowl. Then ill prob go amznps. I reinsulated all around put it on some little clear casters, my dad does business with a sheet metal guy so door skin was a freebie :) I fired it up today and it got up to 330 deg. I need to mess around with it to keep it down to 150/160 for sausage and jerky. I'm more than happy to answer any othe questions :)

I did use wood. It's a pretty thin smaller sheet from Home Depot not exactly sure what its called. That's was also 5 bucks and some change. I still have a section I might put on a hinge for the section below the door. Sorry for all the repeat replies. I'm doing all of this from my phone and I keep getting screwed up with the touch screen

Sounds like the wood material is an end skin for cabinets? It may not hold up very well against heat and humidity at some point you might want to change over to a metal flashing.

What Dasbear said. Overall though, it looks great!

And I agree, why mess around with a complicated and expensive smoke generator, when you can simply use a AMNPS?

Thanks for the advice i'll keep an eye on the wood. If it gets to warped I'll go another route. It was only $5 so I won't be too heart broken if it doesn't work out lol

My wife thinks the tub spout is hilarious. aNother swapmeat find. I tried just using the 550 watt warming burner to keep a lower temp tonight. It worked but I'm not sure if that's gonna get my chips smoking. I'm gonna buy some tomorrow.

Trying a small batch of jerky right now. My first smoke, Whooo Hoooo! This is AWSOME this is the most fun I've had in a long time lol
