I don't like to just throw stuff in the trash to go to the land fill. I have a small vegetable garden that my grass clippings, etc go into to break down. Can I do that with the chips and chunks that I have used in the smoker and are now all burnt?

You should have ash left.... wood ash has many micro nutrients that the garden needs...   It has a high pH so eventually, after many pounds, you may need some ammonium sulfate to bring the pH down a little...  don't worry for a few years about the pH... I put all the ash from my pellet stove in the garden... I burn 6-7 tons of  pellets during the winter... I will take a guess that amounts to 50#'s of ash for the year...  I throw in a few handfuls of (NH[sub]4[/sub])[sub]2[/sub]SO[sub]4 to reduce the alkalinity and add nitrogen.... [/sub]
