Welcome everyone, I'm new to smoking (meats that is, I grew up in the 70's) Just bought a Brinkman Electric smoker and welcome any advise that will help me avoid any mistakes that a rookie like me might make.  Please help me get started, thank you.

What is the best way to get a good smoke going with an electric smoker. I wrapped some of the bigger hunks of wood in tin foil (after soaking), but they don't smoke much. Can I place some chips directly on the heating element?
