Hey Everyone,

My name is Tyler, and I live in Gaines, MI about 30 minutes outside of Flint, MI.

I am totally novice and am literally smoking my first piece of meat ever as I type this...

I have a Brinkmann Charcoal Smoker that was handed down from my father!

Followed the steps of the 2-2-1 method.

Smoked with charcoal but I did use apple, & cherry wood from my dads fruit trees that he had trimmed back!

Removed the membrane for the first time ever, sweet/spicy rub that i concocted, and finished...

Not as tender as I would have liked it, but I had a bit of a heat issue due to a snow storm!

Pretty pumped for my first ever smoke! I was completely prepared to ruin it, and order a pizza!

Welcome, from one newbie to another.  So much information here to learn, I get side tracked and find myself reading about something that was on my list of things to learn, rather than what I "need" to learn for the moment.  I literally spent several hours just trying to decide a good "rub" to use for our first ever home smoked butt.

Ribs look pretty good.  Did you wrap them in foil while still hot,  and let them "rest" after smoking?  I hear that is a must to make them juicy.

Good luck!

Welcome fellow newbie! Ribs look great! Looks like I wasn't the only newbie smoking ribs in the cold last night. I considered trying cherry and apple wood simultaneously for my ribs, but since it's my first time using fruits (I usually use hickory or mesquite) I wanted to taste the flavor cherry added, then apple, and then combined. Pretty bold for your first ever smoke to use two at once. I commend you, sir!

Welcome , Tyler! Ribs look good. What style of brinkmann smoker do you have ? I used to have a brinkmann gourmet bullet smoker.
Well , good luck , brother....you're on the right track! :grilling_smilie:

Welcome Tyler! Glad to see more folks from the Great Lakes State! My sister is just east of you in Grand Blanc.

Glad to see your ribs turned out ok and that Handymanstan hooked you up with a link to our MI group. Holler with any questions!
