I've been poking around on here trying to find someone that has done something with the handles on this smoker. A lot of you have this smoker so I know that someone else can't stand the closures on it!

I've got seal on the door the keeps it from closing the way it was intended... I have to force the doors shut and I've broken/lost the clips that hold the handles in. I want the doors to close snug still but not the way they are now. Anyone have a link to something I missed or fixes that you know of? If you have photos I'd love to see them! Thanks!!

I think the latch an the smoker is adjustable. Try loosening the screws and pulling it forward. If it is not adjustable you can remove the latch and oval out the holes with a drill bit and make it adjustable to where it latches easily. Then go to lowes and some new c-clips for the handles( and a couple extra)

They are slightly adjustable.... I don't know why I didn't think to just pull them off and wallow them out a bit. I think that's the best option to make what I already have work. You don't happen to know what size those clips are do you? Thanks!

I had trouble with the c clips coming off as the handle rotates.  After buying new ones only to discover the design flaw I drilled a hole in the handle shaft and put a small cotter pin into the hole to hold them on.  But it is still a tight fit with a gasket to shut the door.

I'm thinking the clamps on the side wall have some play (?), forward & back, if the screws are loosened on it. Seem to remember having to do that on mine after installing a gasket.

The holes were oval, I pulled mine off and I had forgotten that I'd already tried to make the slots longer. I cut the back slot out so it was open all the way through and filed the front hole out towards the middle of the bracket until I couldn't go any further. I used a washer with the screw when I reattached the bracket so it had some extra bite along the edges. I can now, even with my thick gasket, shut the doors without almost ripping the handles off!

I did as you said, I drilled holes into the small groove where the clip is supposed to set, then got me a small cotter pin and folded it into the grooves. I had to smoosh the top part of the pin a little flat to make it so the handle could spin freely, but it works! Beats the thirty seconds those clips stayed on there by a mile!

Thanks a lot guys!

I lost my both c clips tring to put it together so I used a couple paper clips and bent with needle nose.  After adding 3/8 fireplace rope to seal top compartment it- latches have enough play to get a tight fitting close.  Tight but not difficult to latch.  When paper clips give out will swith to cotter pins.  I didn't want to wait till I got to my shop so that is why I used paper clips.

I tried that fire rope... I must have done it all wrong because it wouldn't stick. Then I couldn't get the glue back off the door, lol. I finally used the seal I got from alliedkenco which I like way better.
