Planning on smoking some ribs for the SB this sun. First hot smoke since I got my AMNPS. I was wondering where I should place the AMNPS in the smoker?

My thought is to fill the water pan with sand, place the ANMPS on it and then have a foil pan with water/ beer for the ribs on the lowest rack in the cooking chamber. So from the bottom up it will be burner>chip pan>water pan w/sand and AMNPS>foil pan w/water>cooking racks.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

So my plan didn't work as intended. Had a real hard time keeping the pellets lit, and got more smoke from the chips in the pan than from the amnps. Pretty sure it was due to a lack of air flow since it was cold and I had my dampers all but closed.

Anyone else have any luck on a hot smoke, and where did your place the amnps?

The AMNPS will not work very well in a propane smoker, a lot of people have tried and there isn't enough air to keep it lit. The propane burner burns all the O2 up.

A few, like myself, have built an external fire box to be able to use it.

The AMNTS (The Tube) has shown very good results in propane smokers.

That explains alot, thanks!

It was awesome when I cold smoked cheese, but the burner wasn't lit. Ugh not really trying to spend another 35 bucks, especially when I already have the anmps... I wonder if they would let me swap? I only used it 1.5 times!

Yup, I'll swap

The Tube Smoker will work better in your propane smoker

Got my tube the other day! Gonna test it out this afternoon with a 9 lb shoulder. I'll report back!
Thanks Todd!
