Got my first brisket (6.5#) and butt (7#) with Jeff's rub in my new XL at 3:30 this morning.  I put an old charcoal grate on the burner to raise the chip pan and have set a cast iron skillet in that for the first mod.  I was able to get my hands on a large, shallow hotel pan to replace the water pan for my second mod.  Still need to put a seal around the door and I should be complete on my mods for a while although with a little difficulty getting the temp to zero in on 225 (bouncing between 220 and 233) I will probably do a needle valve soon as well.  I plan to do 2 fatties as well as a smoked cabbage today as well.  I will have Que-view when all is done.  Thanks for all of the helpful information on this site.  The mods have been spot on and the tips and recipes are great!  It really is a much more enjoyable experience tinkering without having to stab in the dark.  Thanks again!
