Living in Colorado and I love to smoke year round.

Does anyone know of a thermal blanket or a way to maintain 220 degrees F when the temp outside is around freezing?

Any help is appreciated.

I've used welders blankets and they work fine if you use magnets to keep them in place. I also use plywood as a wind break, and together they work well. However, I live in Texas not in Colorado. I know that the WSM has an actual insulated blanket that you can attach, but don't know anyone that has one. Saw photos once, but cannot find them now.

What brand and type of smoker are you using? I can get my GOSM (great outdoor smokey mountain) up to 450* even when it's below 20* F. The other day i had my mini-wsm holding 265* and it was 24* outside. Who says it's too cold to smoke!

If you use a water pan, try switching to Playbox Sand also. It will provide you will higher and more consistent temperatures. Place a sheet of foil over top of it to catch the drippings. After your remoisten it, you can use it again.

I agree, It's never to cold to smoke. It might suck doing it but it's do able. What kind of smoker are you using? I have two propane rings and  a UDS and I've never had to wrap mine with anything even when it's been below zero.

Hello - I've got an MES40 (electric) in a home built cabinet, live up by Woodland Park and I smoke year round...have even smoked with wind like we're having today.

Would you mind swinging by Roll Call  to introduce yourself, so everyone can give you a proper SMF Welcome? While you're at it please update your profile with a location, it makes it easier for people know where in the world you are located when answering questions!

Thanks!

I am kinda surprised you are having problems getting up to temp too. I have an el cheapo propane smoker that I have used year round (in pretty cold MI temps) and never had and issue.
