Received an MES for Xmas and did the seasoning today. Worked fine but I was a bit surprised by the amount of force it took to insert the wood chips pan. After it had cooled off I took a closer look and found what looks like an assembly error. The support bracket that runs across the bottom of the heating element seems to be threaded through one of the element loops (see image).

I take it that is not the norm but please tell me if it is. If not, looks like I'm going to be disassembling an MES tomorrow.

Mine DOESN'T look like that.  The bracket is under the heating element.

If you call and threaten to send it back they will generally throw you a present for your trouble. I got a $30.00 gift certificate from Cabela's about a month ago, due to an error, and they sent it right away.

Worth the effort.

So the heating elements are positioned directly under the wood chip holder pan when installed?

Well, seems like I got the problem resolved with considerable tweeking. I had to bend back the flanges of the chip holder enclosure and reset the bolt that attaches the left side to the bracket. Then the heating element was straightened out so it lays parallel to the bottom of the assemblage instead of flopping all around it. Everything seems to heat up without a glitch so I'm going to try some chicken this weekend for its maiden voyage.

Thanks to all for your feedback and support.

This looks like one slipped by Quality control. LOL This is a picture of one properly installed.
