Hello,

I got a brand new Master Forge Electric smoker for Christmas and have a very basic question.  Where do I place the wood chips... directly on the elements, on a pan that sits on the elements, or does it even matter?  I thought this would be basic knowledge but I've read the instruction manual, searched these forums, and read the 5-day eCourse without any luck.  Any help for this noob smoker would be appreciated!  Thanks.

I have one of these and love it.  There are a few mods you can do but if you just want to use it the way it came then I would pile most of the lava rocks more on one side then the other over the element.  You can put chips on the lava rocks so they are about 2 inch's over the element and then on the other side put a few chips in the bottom outside edge kinda under the element.  I had luck with this but you will have to reload after a couple hours. Bricks in between the elements,Sand in the water pan, really help hold temps.

And if its cold out a little insulation helps.

I hope this helps you.
