I recently received my first smoker for Christmas and have been reading anything and everything I can to learn more about the art of smoking meat. I stumbled across the forum and signed up for the free e-course. In the meantime, I figured I would stop by to say hello.

The smoker I got is a 30" Masterbuilt "Cookmaster" Electric Smoker. I followed the manufacturer's instructions and seasoned the smoker last night. Everything seemed to go OK but only time will tell.

I will attempt to smoke my first tri-tip tonight and would welcome any tips or tricks. I feel like I am blind going into this but the more I read the more it seems like smoking meat is more experience and trial and error vs book smarts so I am gonna jump in with both feet.

Happy New year and nice to meet you all.

Hi Ammocan, and welcome to SMF. Glad you found it as there is a wealth of info here. I can't help you with the electric, but I can say go get a couple of digital temp probes. One for the meat temp and one for the cook chamber temp to help you meet your target. There are a lot of tried and true methods and recipes here, but I agree, it is trial and error to find what works for YOU. You have the right plan: Read, read, read, and jump on in!
