smoke in my mes 40

i use small wood pieces in smoker box. vent less than half open. smokes 1hr 1hr30 then reload. smoked 2 briskets 8 pm to 12noon. had to keep up with loading. it smokes well, how ever i am geting to old to pull allnighters. so my question is how do these smoke boxes work in a mes. and what is the deal with wood pellets this must be procesed ? the dust i get. any info would be helpfull. thanks art...hug my 40

Rather than answer your question directly, it is probably better that you read back through 5-10 pages of posts, you will not only find the answer you seek asked multiple times & the corresponding answers, but you will learn a lot about smoking meat in electric smokers.

I posted a review of an attachment that MES makes. The Cold Smoker from MES. I got it for some of the same reasons you are talking about. With a full load of regular chips you will get 6 hours of smoke.

Hey Chefboyartie!

I cut my teeth on this forum 3 years ago in December

My gadgets came into existence, because my own MES 40 just could not produce good consistent smoke. Also, I had a day job, so feeding the chip loader every 30 - 40 minutes was not realistic.

As the old saying goes, "Necessity is the Mother of invention"!!

No offense to Masterbuilt...Heck I own (4) of them!

My gadgets work!

They produce good smoke for long hours

They cost considerable less than Masterbuilt's new smoker attachment

Easy to use

Use no electricity

Cold Smoke or supplement smoke at cooking temps

Produce little heat

Can be used in other smokers or BBQ grills - Try using the Masterbuilt attachment in your Gas Grill......

its the solid truth though. i was trying to order the amnps online and my order wouldnt go through so i emailed the address on the site. Todd replied to me personally and gave me the same number. so i called yesterday and he answered. we went through the order process (even gave me a $5 coupon for being a member here). what really sold me was the end of the conversation. he said "you can call me anytime you have questions or problems" and "give me a call back after you get it and let me know how you like it". thats about the best customer service that you can ask for. I, too, ordered the amnps because i am lazy and its cold here and i dont like getting out of my comfy chair every hour to change out wood chips. 12 hour smoke without getting up? YES PLEASE!

Scroll up to the top of this page then look to the right. You will see some adds. One of them is for the a-maze-n smoker. Click this and it will bring you to Todd's site. You will find pics and all the info you need. The AMNPS "gadget" combined with the MES 40 (or other smokers) makes smoking very easy. This thing works as advertised or better. I have only had it for a week but love it. I have done 6 smokes already with it and it has been flawless. Just follow Todds instructions to the T and it just works. No more adding chips every 30 minutes. Now if I want 3 to 3.5 hours of smoke I fill with one row of pellets and presto I get 3-3.5 hours of smoke with no hassle. If I want 6 - 7 hours of smoke I fill two rows. If I want 9-11 hours of smoke I fill all three. Simple as that. You do have to buy wood pellets that Todd sells for a reasonable price which at first I was hesitant about but after getting it and using it I have no problem with ordering pellets once in a while. Sorry if I sound like a advertisement but I am just a very happy customer.

Todd is the man! He works hard to make a quality product, then supports his business personally. The reason every other posts in the Electric Forum mentions an AMNPS is because they just plain work, and Todd makes the process easy to go online and buy, plus his personal touch makes things happen.

I am doing spare ribs in the 40" MES now and plan on starting a butt at 21:00 should go about 14 hours so should be good to go by lunch. I am going to use the amazen smoker I bought a few months ago for the first time. Should be exciting.
